I guess we won't be seeing Mr. Madoff on a baseball card after all... Thanks to the Matt F. of the Heartbreaking Cards of Staggering Genius for reporting that Topps is taking off the Bernie Madoff card from the Hoaxes, Hoodwinks, and Bamboozles mini insert card set.
The e-mail received by the Staggering Genius reads as follows:
"Topps announces that it is removing Bernie Madoff from its "World's Biggest Hoaxes, Hoodwinks and Bamboozles" insert from 2009 Allen & Ginter Baseball to comply with a request made by Major League Baseball. The card will be replaced with a subject to be named later."
Another reason why you never, ever, go by initial checklists posted...they are always subject to change.
Maybe now they can put in the executive of a certain rival card company as Madoff's replacement. After all, based on what's been the hot topic today in the hobby blogosphere, the timing couldn't be better.
And I thought there would be nothing worth writing about today.

with all the in-hobby fighting going on whether it be company vs. company or beckett vs. the bloggers, i'm feenin' for a good old "what the heck was topps thinking" post or a "if this is his topps card, what the heck is this" post. you know, some of that old school bdj610. something to tide us over 'til series 2 at least! c'mon jaybee! give it to me!!! :)

Right, but this is the part where -- SURPRISE! -- a few of them "mysteriously" leak out in the first shipment, causing prices to skyrocket.

I'm okay with the card not being included in the set as long as Topps tells us ahead of time, like they did. No more fast ones on the checklists please. I agree though that if a few of these get out there needs to be reprecutions by MLB the shenanagins have got to stop.
