Is Having 56 Paul Molitor Cards Excessive???

Just a quick response to the anonymous poster's comment in last Saturday's Card of the Day post (1988 Topps Paul Molitor #465): "56 cards seems excessive..."

Let me explain. I actually use Beckett's My Organize feature to keep tabs of my collection. Using their vast number of databases, I have been able to compile almost all the cards in my collection, down to the individual card. You can ask me how many of a certain player's cards do I have, and I can tell you (when the website cooperates), the exact number (there are a few limits to this though). And when I looked to see how many of Molitor's cards I had for my Random Card of the Day segment, the database showed me 57 cards, 56 of which I had (the one I don't? 2009 Topps Wal Mart Legends #LLP28 Paul Molitor...does anybody want to trade this one to me???)

For the record, this list includes all the base and insert cards I have of Paul Molitor, including sets outside of the Topps eponymous brand:

Doing these Card of the Day segments has made me realize that I do have a lot of cards of players I didn't think had that many in the first place. Does 56 cards make me a Paul Molitor collector? No, but it would make for an incredible start if I ever decided to pursue it.

Sincerely,

JayBee Anama

Oooooooooooh!

I always thought you meant you had that many of that specific card, not total cards of that player.

That's kinda what I thought too. And 56 cards is not excessive it's a good start.

I don't think that is near too many. If you are a collector, tou're supposed to collect. I have over 102 different Mike Piazza NY Mets game used cards. I say over because that's whats in the book and I have sone others not yet filed. I am a card collector so that's what I do, collect cards.

I don't think that's bad at all. I know I have about 75 different Tony Gwynn cards and am always looking for more. You collect what you love.

I have over a thousand different Chipper Jones cards, so no, 56 is not at all excessive.

I have many many Will Clark cards including 200 of the same Topps card (with the Orioles, I forget the year off the top of my head). Unfortunately I bought a "lot" of cards on EBay and the seller didn't say it was a "lot" of the same card. Idiot.

I have over 200 Hideo Nomo cards and I'm not even what you would consider a "player collector."

Also, 95 percent of the Nomo collectors would laugh derisively at my total.
