Opening Day, 2010. Ick...
...if you were a Cubs fan. I didn't watch the game (although the White Sox fans at work were MORE THAN HAPPY to tell me what was going on during the course of the afternoon). It started off so well. Marlon Byrd hits a 3 run home run in the first, the boys in blue are up 3-0 in the first inning. Life is good.
And then Zambrano imploded. Eight runs in less than 2 innings??? EIGHT RUNS??!
Sean Marshall did great in his first outing, 5 K's in 2.2 innings of work. Then the Cubs scored two more runs to get to within 3. His replacement James Russel pitched 2 innings of shutout ball, keeping the Braves in check.
Then Jeff Samardzija came in and imploded too. His replacement (Justin Berg...I think) wasn't any better. The final score (which I'm sure makes dayf happy)??! 16-5.
SIXTEEN RUNS!!!
I'm sure the boys at the MLB Network were having a field day reporting this one.
So what does this mean heading into the day off on Tuesday? That they better win on Wednesday!!! Otherwise, Cubs fans are in for a long...LONG...season.
And oh yeah, the White Sox won too. Groan!!!
Sincerely,
JayBee Anama
