• Commentary: Is it just me, or are all of the Orioles' minor league affiliates based in the great state of Maryland. Starting with the Aberdeen Ironbirds (Aberdeen, MD) of the NY-Penn League (that would be New York-Pennsylvania, the city is not in either state), then you have the Delmarva Shorebirds (Salisbury, MD) of the South Atlantic League, the Frederick Keys (Frederick, MD) of the Carolina League (Maryland is not in the Carolinas), and the Bowie Baysox (Bowie, MD) of the AA-Eastern League. Okay, so the Norfolk Tides, the O's AAA team, plays in Virginia, but still, it looks like an Orioles prospect plays through the state before making it to Baltimore. Slowly but surely, Jonathan Jesus Schoop has been climbing the ranks of the Orioles' minor league system and tearing it up everywhere he's played (which is practically all over Maryland). He spent his 2012 season with the Baysox, hitting .245, along with 14 home runs, 56 rbi's, 5 stolen bases, and an OPS of .710. He will most likely start the 2013 campaign back in Bowie or with the AAA team in Norfolk, and may end up playing for the big club by the end of the season. Jonathan's older brother, Sharlon, played in the Giants' organization for 7 seasons and in 2012, signed with the Royals as a minor league free agent. MLB.com ranks Jonathan Schoop as the team's #4 prospect heading into the 2013 season.
