2011 Topps Series 1 is on the Bay!!!

It looks like even though the street release for the newest product isn't until this Wednesday (and if you're in the midwest, good luck getting to your local card shop...or anywhere for that matter), a few of the eBay case busters have already received their product and have begun posting auctions of product online!!!

This is a set I'm looking forward to acquiring.

Greatest Auction Ever...Every Topps Baseball Set from 1951-2008...OVER!!!

Friend of the humble blog Big Daddy just informed me that the Huggins and Scott auction for every that had EVERY TOPPS BASEBALL CARD FROM 1951 - 2008 in one huge lot ended last night. Here are the results (for those who don't want to click on the link):

Opening Bid: $2,500.00

Bid Count: 31

Closing Price: $32,500.00

With a 15% buyers premium ($4,875.00), the winning bidder is paying $37,375.00 for 58 complete Topps sets.

Based on the condition of some of the older cards, I'm not surprised that the sell price didn't go through the roof, (I was thinking that the auction would end in the mid 50,000's), but I didn't expect it to end that low. The winning bidder got himself (or herself) a bargain for an auction of that many cards.

I highly doubt that they are going to announce the name of the bidder who won. I'd love a shot at interviewing the winner just to find out what he or she will be doing with the cards, and is this person planning on upgrading the poorer conditioned cards?

Greatest Auction Ever...Every Topps Baseball Set from 1951-2008 UPDATE

One of my first few posts was about the Huggins and Scott auction that had EVERY TOPPS BASEBALL CARD FROM 1951 - 2008 in one huge lot. That's 58 COMPLETE SETS of Topps cards!!!

The auction started last Sunday (June 22). It started with a minimum bid of $25,000, is now up to $130,000, after 17 bids. It still has 6 days plus to go before it ends, so I'm sure that bidding will be more furious towards the end of next week.

Oh if only that rebate check had a few extra zeros at the end (before the decimal point, of course)...

Greatest Auction Ever...Every Topps Baseball Set from 1951-2008

Never before has an auction of this magnitude ever existed. A press release was made announcing Huggin and Scott's auctions for June, and this lot is auction number 1.

Can you imagine, owning every Topps Baseball Card, from a Yogi Berra 1951 Red Back #1 to 2008 Topps Yadier Molina #660? That's my ultimate dream!!!

I don't care about the conditions of the 1975 and older cards (they range from poor to excellent-mint), just the fact that they are all there, ripe for the taking. But I don't even have the $2500.00 needed for the minimum bid. The auction runs from 06/22/2008 to 07/09/2008. And you can sure bet that I'm going to keep an eye on this one, just to see how much someone is willing to spend on EVERY SINGLE TOPPS BASEBALL CARD IN EXISTANCE!!!
