Random Topps Card of the Day: 2010 Topps Update Series #US87 Trevor Plouffe

(To make up for not publishing last week's Random Cards of the Day from last Tuesday to last Sunday, I will post each of last week's posts one day at a time beginning tomorrow, a double-header of randomness.)

Thanks to the Topps Card Randomizer, introducing the Random Topps Card of the Day for Monday, December 16, 2013:

• Official Card Set Name and Card Number: 2010 Topps Update Series #US87.
• Player Name, position, team: Trevor Plouffe, shortstop, Minnesota Twins.
• Major League Debut: May 21, 2010.
• Last Line of Statistics: 2009 stats (Rochester, AAA-International): 118 G, 430 AB, 53 R, 112 H, 23 2B, 5 3B, 10 HR, 60 RBI, 3 SB, 34 BB, 68 SO, .407 SLG, .720 OPS, .260 AVG.
• Any special information about player: Drafted by the Twins #1st, June 2004. Bats: right. Throws: right.
• Number of regular Topps Cards (includes regular and traded cards only): 5. This is his second Topps card.
• Blurb on the back: Making his Major League debut on May 21, 2010, Trevor laced an RBI single in his first at-bat, then later rapped a run-scoring double. It was the kind of performance scouts had been projecting since '04, when Plouffe was drafted as one of the top two-way high school prospects in the nation. He belted 13 homers in his first professional season."
• Commentary: It took a while, but when the Twins finally called up Trevor Patrick Plouffe in 2010, his seven-year odyssey in the Twins' minor league system had paid off. He would bounce back and forth between Minneapolis and Rochester, NY, getting called up to fill in when the Twins' regulars were on the DL. While he hit .244 with 15 home runs and 49 rbi's during 102 games in Rochester, Plouffe hit .146 with two home runs and 6 rbi's during his combined runs with the Twins. He returned to Rochester for the 2011 campaign, getting called up in May to fill in for injuries. Upon his return to the Red Wings, he hit a ridiculous .313 (an OPS of 1.019) with 15 home runs and 33 rbi's, the home run total being just as many in 51 games as he had hit in 102 games the year before. It was more than enough to convince the Twins that he needed to play in the big leagues full time. Since 2011, Plouffe has hit .245 with 38 home runs and 107 rbi's in 248 games played. He is the Twins starting third baseman heading into the 2014 season.
