  • Commentary: So Doug Jennings didn't have much of a career in the Majors.  He played a grand total of 189 games in five seasons (which included a four game stint in 1989 and an eight game run in 1991) for the Athletics and Cubs. In his time in the majors, he hit five home runs, drove in 37 rbi's, had a bating average of .202 (which could have been much less, but he managed to hit a decent .250 with the Cubbies), an OPS of .619, and stole no bases, but did get caught 5 times.  So what did he do after 1993?  After a year in Indianapolis (the Reds' AAA team), he spent three years with the Orix Blue Wave in Japan (1995-1997).  He returned to the US in 1999, playing for the Newark Bears for Atlantic League.  In 2000, the Royals took a chance on him after seeing him play with the Long Island  Ducks (Atlantic League).  He spent time in the Mexico (Cordoba Cafeteros and Tabasco Olmecas) in 002.  Another stint with the Ducks led to signing with the Brewers minor league team, sending him back to Indianapolis in 2003. The Ducks kept his spot on the roster open because he came back to them for both the 2004 and 2005 campaigns.  So while his run in the majors was sadly short, he did enjoy a long career in the game.  But for his 1988 season in which he played 71 games as a pinch hitter and back up to the Bash Brothers, Topps included him in one of my favorite sets of all-time.  Thanks Topps.
  • Beckett value: $0.01-$0.05.

Tomorrow's card will be: 2007 Topps #338. Post will arrive at 1:00 PM CST. Until tomorrow everybody.

Sincerely,
