Random Topps Card of the Day: 1978 Topps #445 Mike Ivie

Thanks to the Topps Card Randomizer, introducing the Random Topps Card of the Day for Friday, January 8, 2010:

  • Official Card Set Name and Card Number: 1978 Topps #445.
  • Player Name, position, team: Mike Ivie, first baseman, San Diego Padres.
  • Major League Debut: September 4, 1971.
  • Last Line of Statistics: 1977 stats (Padres): 134 G, 489 AB, 66 R, 133 H, 29 2B, 2 3B, 9 HR, 66 RBI, .272 AVG.
  • Any special information about player: Drafted by Padres #1st, June 1970. Bats: right, Throws: right.
  • Any special information about this specific card: Ivie's fifth regular Topps card (total includes both Topps and Topps Traded cards). Unique picture as it's taken during batting practice instead of at the game. Gotta love those brown 70's Padres jerseys. I wonder what Ivie's shouting to the photographer? Anyway, the back of the card features a large blurb about Ivie (best game was the second game of a double header against the Giants on 06/23/1976. Many of the players' cards could be used for a game called "Play Ball." Each card featured a play (single, home run, strikeout, etc), and depending on the card, you could in fact, play a game. Drawing Ivie's card would have resulted in a fly out.
  • Lo-Hi Beckett value: $0.08-$0.25.
Tomorrow's card will be: 1994 Topps #284. Post will arrive at 1:00 PM CST. Flash forward with the blog tomorrow.

Sincerely,

JayBee Anama

  1. He's probably yelling something like, "Hey! The players are on the field! Stop trying to take upskirts of our wives!"

I love comments. Please leave comments!!! (Ego, hush). Just keep your words clean (I show my kids this stuff), and the comment will be accepted.

If you must leave a comment anonymously, that's fine too. Although I wish you wouldn't. I'd like to get to know the people who actually read this humble little blog.

Thank you very much.

Sincerely,
